[Arts & Culture] October Story Slam Open Mic Night

One Night, One Shared Habitat.

Calling all writers, readers, spoken word artists, comedians and more! Come show us your work at our Studio.89 | Kind World Charity Story Slam!

October 16th, 2026 | 7:00 PM – 8:30 PM | Burnhamthorpe Community Centre Program Room (1500 Gulleden Dr, Mississauga, ON L4X 2T7).

With the municipal elections around the corner, join us for a thoughtful and engaging night of short stories about local issues weaved around the lives of the people, animals, and land around them.

Each performer will be allotted an 8-minute time slot. Shorter is always welcome, and helps the flow of the night stay fluid!

Our Open Mic is intended to be a safe, welcoming, and inclusive space for everyone. We encourage honest expression and meaningful conversations while ensuring that all participants feel respected and valued.

Every performance will need to be reviewed in advance by organizers before a speaker is accepted, with guidance offered to keep focus on lived experience. To help maintain this environment, performances must be free from:

• Profanity
• Hate speech
• Racism
• Homophobia, or other forms of discrimination
• Harassment or personal attacks
• Naming or endorsement of any candidate or party

This is a space to celebrate our differences, our shared experiences, and the stories that connect us. We look forward to hearing yours!
